Cultural Support for Peabody
Objective:
Generate a compelling offer attractive for a new cultural anchor for the New Mansion Square (Battersea Power Station) development and a Public Art Strategy for the Higgs Yard development in Lambeth.
Sherry Dobbin consulted with the Peabody Development team, the Mayor of London Making Spacee for Culture team, Wandsworth Council and Nine Elms cultural teams, Battersea Power Station to identify a compelling offer. Pulling together a selection committee to review the exceptional response. BLINK DANCE THEATRE brings a unique offer to Peabody, the development and Nine Elms. They are a Neurodiverse group of four artists who perform and facilitate together. They responded very highly to all of the criteria and met the social value agreement principles of the Nine Elms and Wandsworth Council and the values of Peabody.
Kemi Akinola, Wandsworth Council Deputy Leader, said: “We are pleased to announce that BLINK Dance Theatre are bringing their pioneering approach to Wandsworth and would like to welcome the theatre team to our borough. It was a privilege to be part of the panel making this decision as it signals real change towards a fairer and more inclusive local arts sector.”
Building upon the success of the ongoing Seven Bridges project, spearheaded by the Loughborough Junction Action Group, and The Brixton Project’s networking and commissioning of work in the area, the Higgs Yard Development will contribute to the growing pride of place. The process began with Loughborough Junction and Brixton area engagement and will focus on the artists and support coming from the borough of Lambeth, with the commissioning from Peabody. The co-design element of the approach symbolizes Peabody’s mission to ‘Helping People Flourish’ and supports our locality model of responding to and working directly with each community we serve.
